Behaviour Disorders

Behaviour disorders are characterised as a disorder that can cause disruptions for a period of 6 months or more. The most common type of behavioural disorders are Oppositional Defiance Disorder (ODD), Conduct Disorder, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD), and Obsessive-compulsive Disorder (ODD).

Positive behaviour support is the most common type of support to assist individuals with behavioural disorders. Supports should always be delivered in an ethical manner and approved restraints should only be utilised as a last resort.

Goals

The goal of this course is to provide Support Workers with an understanding of different behaviour disorders and providing positive behavioural support whilst always acting in an ethical manner. Support Workers will understand how to support people based on their individualised needs and the different types of restraints that may be utilised in the community.
