Diabetes Management

Our body releases insulin to help regulate our blood sugar levels. It is something that most people produce naturally, however some people are unable to regulate it on their own. Diabetes can occur when these blood sugar levels are too high and unable to be maintained at an acceptable level.

This course enables support workers to understand the different types of diabetes as well as the different ways it can be managed through medication, diet, and lifestyle.

Goals

The goal of this course is for support workers to learn about diabetes, the different ways in which it can occur, and how to best assist participants individual needs in managing their diabetes.

  • Understanding the different types of diabetes

  • Understanding the functions of the body in insulin and blood glucose management

  • Understanding the different ways to manage diabetes

  • Basic overview and understand of insulin pumps and needles

  • Demonstrates how to read and understand a participants diabetes management plan
